Career HUB

Helping you navigate career change with confidence.

Perhaps you're feeling stuck, considering a new direction, exploring a portfolio career or wondering how to rediscover enjoyment in your work. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Is this you?

Career decisions in healthcare feel different.

They carry weight. Years of training, professional identity and the expectations of others all press in on you.
It's not simply a question of what job to do next;
it's a question of who you want to be.

You might recognise yourself in one of these situations:

  • You're early in your career, unsure which specialty to choose. Everyone has an opinion, but the decision feels too important to rush.

  • You've been in your specialty for a while and the spark has faded. You're tired, perhaps burnt out, and quietly questioning whether this is still right for you.

  • You're drawn to a portfolio career. You want to combine clinical work with teaching, leadership or something new, but you're not sure how to make it work.

  • You're considering leaving medicine. The thought is frightening but also, sometimes, a relief. You need help thinking it through without judgement.

  • You're later in your career, thinking about what comes next. Retirement isn't a single moment; it's a transition, and you want to plan it well.

If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place.

Why career coaching?

Sometimes you know that something about your career needs to change,
but working out exactly what that is - and what to do about it - can be difficult.

It can help to ask yourself a few questions:

Focus: How focussed are you on your different career options?

Do you have a clear idea of what you want, are there several specialties you're considering, or are you still trying to work out what your options might be within a broad area of interests?

Information: How much research into different career options have you done?

Do you know enough about the opportunities you're considering to make an informed decision?

Realism: How realistic are you about your abilities and external factors on career decisions?

This might include your experience and skills, but also practical considerations such as available opportunities, competition and family and life circumstances.

Scope: How aware are you of the range of options available to you?

Sometimes the difficulty isn't choosing between several options. It's knowing what the possibilities are in the first place.

Tactics: What practical steps will you take to reach your career objectives?

You may know where you want to go, but still need to work out how to get there.

Based on FIRST - Kidd (2006) Understanding Career Counselling

If some of these questions are difficult to answer, you don't necessarily need someone to give you the answers. You may simply need a structured way to think them through.

My career workbooks give you the opportunity to do that independently. If you would benefit from exploring them in more depth, one-to-one coaching gives you the space to work through them with support.

Choose your Next Step

There are two ways I can help,
depending on where you are and what you need right now.

One-to-One Career Coaching

Confidential, personalised coaching that helps you think clearly, explore your options and build a practical action plan. For when you want guided support from someone who understands healthcare careers.

Career workbooks

Structured coaching workbooks to help you reflect, gain clarity and take action at your own pace. Each one focuses on different stages of career journeys.

My coaching Approach:

Coaching isn't about telling you what to do. It's about creating the space to think clearly, explore options and take practical action that aligns with your own values and goals.

You already know more than you think. My role is to help you access that knowledge, test it against reality and turn it into decisions you feel confident about.

No guilt. No judgement. No pressure to choose a particular path. Just honest, structured conversation that helps you move forward.

Why work with me?

I'm a doctor, an educator and a coach. That combination matters because career decisions in healthcare are rarely just about career. They're about identity, purpose and the life you want to build around your work.

After more than 30 years in the NHS, including 14 years as an Emergency Medicine Consultant, I understand the pressures healthcare professionals face. I've supervised over 100 doctors since 2008 and qualified as an ILM Level 5 Coach in 2024. I've been coaching regularly since 2023.

I also understand because I've been there. My own career evolved from full-time clinical practice into a portfolio that includes education, coaching and AI training. That journey taught me that career change is rarely linear, but it is always possible with the right support.

I only accept three new coaching clients each month. That's deliberate. It means I can give each person the time and attention they deserve.
